PPF, explained

What paint protection film is, and what it stops.

Paint protection film is a clear film laid over the painted panels of your vehicle. When a rock comes off the truck ahead of you, the film takes the hit and the paint under it stays as it was.

It is a different job from a ceramic coating. A coating is a thin chemical layer for gloss and easy washing, and it is not armor: it will not stop a rock chip. Film is the physical layer. Plenty of people want both, film where the chips happen and a coating for the shine.

  • Takes the chips. Rock chips and road debris hit the film, not your paint.
  • Clear. The film goes on clear, so your paint color is what people see.
  • Your coverage. Tell us which panels you want covered and we quote exactly that.

Film or coating

Paint protection film and ceramic coating do different jobs.

If you are choosing between them, start with what worries you most. Chips point to film. Gloss and easy washing point to a coating.

PPF packages

Three ways to cover it. Each one quoted for your vehicle.

The packages differ in how much of the car the film covers. Rocks hit the front first, then the lower sides, so that is how the coverage grows. Pick one, or tell us exactly which panels you want and we will quote that instead.

    Full Front

Best for a daily driver: film on the panels that meet the most rocks on the highway, without covering the whole car.

Door edges and handle cups can be added to any package. The price depends on the vehicle, the package and whether the paint needs polishing first, so every quote is for your vehicle. Financing through Affirm and Klarna.

The process

Five steps from free quote to film on the paint.

Film covers what is under it, good or bad, so the paint gets cleaned up before any film goes on.

  1. Start with a free quote

Tell us what you drive and which panels you want covered. Photos of the paint help us tell you whether it needs any polishing first.

    Photos help

  2. Drop-off or valet pickup

Film is installed at our Clinton Township shop, by appointment. Bring the vehicle to us, or ask about our pick-up and drop-off valet service: we pick it up and bring it back.

    Shop only

  3. Wash and decontamination

A full decontamination wash: iron and tar removal, then a clay treatment, so nothing is trapped between the film and the paint.

    Clean paint first

  4. Polish if the paint needs it

Swirls under the film stay under the film. If your paint has them, paint correction can come first, quoted with the film so you see one number.

    Only if needed

  5. Film goes on, indoors

The film is fitted panel by panel in our enclosed bays, out of the dust and weather that would otherwise end up under it.

Questions

Paint protection film questions.

The things people ask us most before booking. If yours is not here, call or text (586) 400-1303.

How much does paint protection film cost?

It depends on the vehicle and how much of it you want covered, so we quote it per vehicle instead of publishing a price list. The three packages above are the usual starting points. A front bumper and mirrors is a very different job from the whole front end.

Tell us what you drive and which panels you want covered, by text, by phone or with the quote form on this page, and we will give you a real number. Financing is available through Affirm and Klarna.

Should I get paint protection film or a ceramic coating?

Start with what worries you. If it is rock chips on the front end, that is what paint protection film is for: a coating will not stop a chip. If it is gloss, water spots and easier washing, that is what a ceramic coating is for.

Many people do both, film on the panels that take the hits and a coating for the shine. Ask us and we will tell you honestly which one fits what you are worried about.

Will paint protection film fix the chips and swirls I already have?

No. Film is clear, so what is under it stays visible under it. A chip is a spot where the paint is gone, and film will not put it back.

Swirls and light scratches can be polished out before the film goes on. If your paint needs it, we quote paint correction together with the film.

Can you install paint protection film at my home?

No. Film goes on at our Clinton Township shop, in enclosed bays, because dust and weather are the enemy of a clean install.

If getting to the shop is the obstacle, use our pick-up and drop-off valet: we pick the vehicle up, do the work at the shop and bring it back.

How long does a paint protection film install take?

It depends on how many panels you cover and whether the paint needs polishing first. A few front panels is a much shorter job than a full front end with correction.

We give you an exact window when we quote your vehicle, so you can plan around it or book the valet.
