Winter film, wiped off dry
Troy salts its major roads first and does not plow subdivision streets until more than 4 inches falls, so between washes a car here wears a film of salt and grit. Brushing or wiping that film off dry drags it across the clear coat. A lot of swirl marks start exactly there.
A wash after every salting
The county salts I-75 and the city salts Big Beaver and the other main roads first, so a commuter car needs washing often all winter. Brush-style automatic washes put swirls in any finish, and each pass adds a little. Touchless washes are fine.
Open lots show everything
Direct sun is a hard inspection light. Park a dark car in an open lot on Big Beaver at noon and every wash mark shows. We look at the same paint under shop lighting, then tell you whether a one-step polish will do it or the paint needs a multi-stage correction.
Getting ready for the Troy Traffic Jam

Prices shown are starting prices for a coupe or sedan in average condition. SUVs and trucks are quoted for their size. Correction is not repainting: it cannot fix rock chips, scratches through the clear coat or failed clear coat.

Machine polishing needs an enclosed bay and controlled lighting, so paint correction is done at our Clinton Township shop. From central Troy that is about 14 miles: east on Big Beaver Road, which becomes Metropolitan Parkway past Dequindre, then right on Utica Road and left on 14 Mile Road. Roughly 25 minutes without traffic.
A one-step polish with Polish & Protect takes about 4.5 to 5 hours. A multi-stage correction takes longer and is quoted per vehicle once we have seen the paint. If you cannot get away to drop it off, valet pickup collects the vehicle in Troy and brings it back when the work is done.

What will paint correction not fix?
Rock chips, deep scratches that go through the clear coat, and clear coat that has failed. Correction is not repainting. It works on the clear coat that is there: swirl marks, light scratches, oxidation and water spots. We go over the paint with you under shop lighting and say what will come out and what will not before any work starts.
Can you have my car ready for a show?
Yes, with notice. A one-step polish is most of a working day and a multi-stage correction takes longer, and we work Monday to Friday by appointment. Give us the date when you ask for a quote and we will tell you what fits. If you want the result protected, correction is included in every ceramic coating package, done right before the coating goes on.
Do I need a full detail as well, or only the polish?
That depends on the inside. Polish & Protect is exterior only: a full decontamination wash, a wheel and tire deep clean, the one-step polish and a 6 month sealant.
