Paint correction in Royal Oak
Curb parking in the City of Trees: where the marks come from.
Swirls and dull spots build up slowly, then show all at once the first time the car sits in direct sun. On Woodward in August that is every panel. These are the likely sources for a car that lives in this city.
Parked under the City of Trees
Royal Oak's street trees stand in the lawn strip between the sidewalk and the curb, right beside where cars park. Sap and bird droppings that bake on leave marks, and scrubbing them off dry adds scratches. Polishing removes water spots and light marks in the surface of the clear coat. Damage through the clear coat stays, and we will tell you which you have.
Snow emergencies and the snow brush
In a snow emergency every vehicle has to come off the residential streets until the plows have been through, so a street parked car gets brushed off and moved. A stiff brush dragged across salty paint leaves fine scratches. Brush-style automatic washes put in swirls of their own. A one-step polish takes out roughly 60 to 70% of light swirls and scratches like these.
The Car Show in the Park
The Woodward Dream Cruise is the third Saturday of August, and the city's Car Show in the Park runs at Memorial Park, at Woodward and 13 Mile, that weekend. A car parked in open sun gets looked at from a foot away. A 2019 Corvette Z06 carrying years of wash marks is one of the cars we have corrected.
Old paint on cruise cars
Woodward was used for unofficial street racing by 1958, and plenty of what cruises it now is decades old. Old paint oxidizes and goes flat. Correction removes oxidation: a 1990 Mazda Miata with a severely oxidized bumper and hood took a 2 step correction from us. Failed clear coat is different. Correction is not repainting, and we say so before any work starts.
Under the light
See what the inspection light sees.
Swirl marks hide in the shade and show up in the sun. Move the light across the paint, then step through a one-step polish and a multi-stage correction.

From Royal Oak
About 4.5 to 5 hours for a one-step polish. Longer for heavy work.

I had the exterior of my car detailed yesterday and I needed special attention done to the wax left behind from having the car undercoated 2 years ago. Let me tell you, Josh and Matt did not disappoint! I was elated when they showed me my car upon completion! …

Questions
Paint correction in Royal Oak: questions.
If yours is not here, call or text (586) 400-1303.
How much does paint correction cost?
Two prices are published, and both are for a coupe or sedan in average condition. Polish & Protect is a decontamination wash and a one-step machine polish that removes roughly 60 to 70% of light swirls and scratches, sealed for 6 months, from $344.99. Luxury Refresh is a full inside and out detail with a one-step polish, from $439.99. Anything heavier is a multi-stage correction, and we quote that once the car is under our lights. Request a free quote.
Is a one-step polish enough for a car going to the Car Show in the Park?
It depends on the paint and how closely it will be looked at. A one-step polish removes roughly 60 to 70% of light swirls and scratches, which is a big change on a daily driver. On black or dark paint parked in open sun all day, what is left can still show, and that is when a multi-stage correction is worth a quote. We inspect the paint under shop lighting and tell you which one it needs. If you want the finish to last past August, every ceramic coating package includes correction first.
Will polishing remove the spots left by tree sap and bird droppings?
It depends how deep they went. Polishing removes water spots, light scratches and marks in the surface of the clear coat. If a spot has gone through the clear coat, polishing cannot bring it back, because correction is not repainting. We look at it under shop lighting and tell you which you have before any work starts.
Do I need paint correction, or just a good wash and sealant?
A wash and sealant cleans and protects what is already there. It does not remove swirls. Swirls are fine scratches in the clear coat, and only machine polishing takes them out. If you see a spider web pattern around the sun's reflection on the hood, that is what you are looking at. Text a photo to (586) 400-1303 and we will tell you straight. The wash-only options are on the Royal Oak detailing page.
